Müllerstraße in the north of Berlin: For a long time, the 3.5 km long “Ku’damm of the North” was a popular commercial street, but its heyday has long passed. Today, it is primarily a heavily trafficked thoroughfare. Many shops and department stores, such as Karstadt, have disappeared. Leopoldplatz, at the centre of Müllerstraße, is grappling with social issues, including drug and alcohol abuse. At the same time, the surrounding streets are increasingly threatened by gentrification. How do people feel about Müllerstraße? What is it like to live and work there? What are their hopes? Michael Eun visited Müllerstraße repeatedly over several weeks, spoke to locals, got to know their businesses and photographed his impressions.
